Review of: "Maybelline Volum' Express' The Mega Plush Mascara"

I recently was in need of some mascara and I have been hearing about this new type of “gel-mousse” mascara called, “Volum’ Express’ the MEGA PLUSH” by Maybelline. At first I was a little bit skeptical to try it but at $7.49 and needing to do more important things then stare at the different mascaras, I tossed it in my basket. After trying it for a while, I thought that I would share my review on the mascara.

One thing that drew me to this mascara was the packaging and the color of the bottle. It stood out from all the other black bottled mascaras and looked as if it was shouting, “Try me!” However, the packaging still managed to stay professional, to the point, and able to quickly tell me what this mascara would do for me. Sweet and simple packaging that gets to the point is always a plus for me. Another interesting point about the packaging is that it shows how flexible the brush of the mascara is which really impressed me. The thought of a brush moving with my eyelashes was really inviting and it helped with my decision to buy it. So far, the packaging and color had me sold to at least give the mascara a try but, could it really be true to its name and be plush?

Now, I have to admit that I really, really doubted that this mascara was going to really feel “plush” and light like a gel or mousse. The word “gel” also had me feeling that for some reason the mascara was going to make my lashes sticky. Yeah, at first I wasn’t giving it much of a chance or hope even before I tried it on! I’m horrible, I know.

When opening the mascara I noticed that it opens smoothly and the brush itself comes out easily. I also noticed how flexible the brush was even just taking it out of the bottle. It moved with the way I was pulling it out and I could bend and move the brush which I found to be not only neat but a great plus. The brush head is very full and shaped in a sort of elongated oval, this helps the mascara apply thinly in the corners of your eyes and thicker in the middle. This gives the appearance of fuller, thicker and flared lashes; I really enjoy this look.

Once I stopped playing with the brush and actually applied the mascara I was rather shocked. I only had to apply one coat of the mascara before my eye lashes looked like I had just put false thick, flared lashes on. I was extremely impressed because normally I apply two or three coats and have to apply more to different areas of my lashes to get that “flared” look. I was still a bit skeptical about the “gel-mousse” part of the mascara that is supposed to keep the mascara from flaking, becoming brittle, and give it a light touch. I decided to see if the mascara could really stay looking fresh, soft, and not flake throughout my day and accidentally rubbing my eyes. Well, despite my skepticism the mascara really did hold true to its name and what it said it was supposed to do. The mascara never flaked, it didn’t smudged, and I forgot that I was wearing it. It is so light on my lashes and it feels really smooth and clean to the touch. Needless to say, this mascara really, really impressed me and it gets a 5/5.

Overall, “Volum’ Express’ the MEGA PLUSH” mascara by Maybelline gets a 5/5. It gets a 5/5 for price, value, product quality, and for being true to product description. The mascara is really great for those wanting thick, full, and flared lashes without looking like they are wearing mascara. It is light weight on the lashes, it has great flexibility, it didn’t dry, flake, or smudge, and it has a nice, soft texture. I really, really love this mascara.

So let’s go over some pros and cons of the mascara, “Volum’ Express’ the MEGA PLUSH” by Maybelline.

Pros:
  • ·         True to product description
  • ·         Good packaging
  • ·         Flexible brush
  • ·         Light weight coating
  • ·         Soft texture
  • ·         Doesn't take many coats to achieve desired look

Cons:
  • ·         Probably not mascara I would want to wear every day because it can make the eyes look a little over dramatic.

Anyway, I hope that this review was helpful and if you are looking to try this mascara I would say go for it! Even if you don’t want to wear it every day it still makes for wonderful “going out” mascara and is worth the price. I hope to post a DIY face mask tomorrow so keep an eye out for it, okay? I love you my wonderful cute bunny readers! Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
