For a while now I have been wanting to try the Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm and a few days ago I decided I would give it a go. I purchased the lip balm for about $8 and in the "healthy blush" shade because I wanted a little color but one that I could wear everyday. As soon as I was out of the store I quickly opened the package and tried the lip balm.
The first thing I noticed was that the way the lip balm was shaped weird which made it rather uncomfortable and awkward to hold in my hand. The lip balm has a oval shape to it and so I kept wanting to hold the thinner side, turning the lip balm the wrong way, rather than hold it correctly. The awkward design was my first overall complaint but, I will give them credit for trying to do something a little different.
My next compliant happens to me quite frequently and so I wasn't all that surprised, the shade was much darker then I thought it was. The healthy blush shade was advertised to look like a dark pink or a coral red and that was one reason why I bought. Dark pinks and coral colors tend to look really nice on me and I can get away with wearing them everyday. The color that was now on my lips looked more like a red-purple color and it made my face look extremely pale and washed out. When a color shade is too dark than it should be I can sometimes fix this by lightly reapplying the lip color again but, it wasn't happening. I could only make the shade look darker but I didn't want that at all.
One good thing about the lip balm was that it did apply on smoothly. The lip balm had a nice texture to it and a major plus was that it wasn't very sticky like how some balms and glosses can be. The lip balm also felt very moisturizing to my poor chapped lips that had suffered from a recent cold. Another pro was that the lip balm also has SPF 20 which is great for when the sun is out. Protecting your lips is just as important as protecting your skin and with lip balms that have SPF in them, you don't even notice it.
Now, keep in mind that this next part is just what I experienced and that it won't necessarily happen to you. I decided that because I just bought the lip balm I might as well wear it to see if maybe I just need some time to get use to it. After about ten minutes of having the lip balm on I started to notice that my lips were feeling weird but I ignored it. A few more minutes later my lips started to burn like crazy and so I quickly figured that the lip balm was hurting my lips. One thing about this lip balm, which is a pro in most cases except mine, is that it doesn't come off very quickly and so it took me a while before I could get all of the lip balm off. Once it was off, my lips were red and they had a horrible texture. I assume that something in the lip balm made my lips have an allergic reaction and that is why they were burning because a few days later I tried the lip balm again and the same thing happened.
Overall, the Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm wasn't worth the money that I paid for it. The design was awkward to hold, the color was darker than I thought and something in it caused my lips to have a reaction. That is just my personal opinion though and some people love the lip balm, some people don't. I will list some pros and cons of the lip balm for you guys below as well so you can decide for yourself if you want to give it try.
